Chanca Piedra from the Peruvian Amazonian forest is known for its action on the kidneys and the renal system, to treat specific pathologies such as renal or biliary colic by “breaking” the lithiasis (stones) responsible for pain. It also has protective and detoxifying functions on the liver and digestive system.
The plant of chanca piedra helps to purge the liver of harmful substances and helps to detoxify it.
In 2002, a study published in India indicates that chanca piedra stimulates the production of bile which helps digestion and allows for better absorption of nutrients. It also slows down the absorption of substances considered toxic, particularly certain drugs. Traditional Chinese medicine also uses it for the same purpose.
Chanka Piedra attracted the attention of pharmaceutical companies in the 1980s and 1990s , when they were looking for drugs against viral diseases such as hepatitis B, C and HIV. Later, pharmaceutical companies began to develop new drugs with this plant. Some of the chemicals found in Chanka Piedra and other related plants of the genus Phyllanthus are not found in any other plant. These are specific flavonoids, alkaloids, lignans, glycosides, elaginins and phenylpropanoids.
Also, chanca piedra is a good antioxidant: it reduces oxidative stress, preserves the body from aging and prevents certain cancers.
Chanca piedra has also some benefits for diabetes. Its high content of phenolic compounds helps control blood sugar levels.
Chanca piedra is therefore useful for:
– Protect, detoxify and strengthen the liver and liver functions, especially in the case of hepatitis B.
– Controlling certain pests
– Reduces spasms and colic
– Prevents ulcer formation
– Helps eliminate liquids, especially in cases of water retention or edema.
– Fight certain viruses and bacteria
– Preventing and controlling malaria
– Reduce cholesterol and sugar in the blood
How to use Chanca Piedra? How it work and dosage
In tropical regions, the fresh plant is used in the form of maceration, tea, and other infused preparations. You can find dried leaves in some organic shops or herbalists. To make a tea from dried leaves, add 2 teaspoons to a cup of water. Make a decoction for 10 to 15 minutes over low heat. You can drink 2 cups of this mixture per day.
For practical reasons, preparations in different forms (capsule, tincture) exist and will allow you to enjoy the benefits of chanca piedra.
In capsule form: take 1 or 2 capsules thirty minutes after meals.
In tincture: take 20 drops 3 times a day (preferably every 8 hours) dissolved in a quarter of a glass of water, juice or infusion.
It is indicated to use the chanca piedra for one month. You can then suspend the treatment for one month before renewing it.
