Petitgrain essential is used to calm the central nervous system and relieve stress. Petitgrain (C. reticulata leaves) essential oil enhanced memory by inhibiting acetylcholinesterase (AChE), diminishing oxidative stress in the brain, and calming the brain during behavioral tasks in a preclinical model. Inhibition of AChE means more acetylcholine is available to the brain, which is key to memory and learning. Also, reduction of oxidative stress means brain cells are protected against damage and destruction. Petitgrain essential oil also has some other medicinal activities such as it affects flatulence, constipation, diarrhea and increases skin circulation, reduces the retention of fluids, and prevents stretch marks. Also, it has a broad-spectrum antibacterial and antifungal activity by inhibiting their growth.
